15 Dec 2019 SAS Selection is notorious as being one of the most arduous and rigorous selection and training programs in the special forces.

The route into the SASR for all ADF personnel is via a highly structured and formal selection and training process. This process for joining the SASR consists of several steps, the most famous of which is the SASR Selection Course, simply known as ‘Selection’. It is three weeks of near torture, and those in charge show little mercy.

Series 1 SAS Special Forces Briefing Course (SFBC): the 48-hour SAS SFBC, delivered by 22 SAS Training Squadron at Hereford, must be attended by all other ranks wishing to serve with the SAS. There are eight SFBCs each year. The SAS SFBC includes: Presentations on the organisation, role and training of the SAS. By the end of this course, you will know how to use SAS Studio to write and submit SAS programs that access SAS, Microsoft Excel, and text data. You will know how to explore and validate data, prepare data by subsetting rows and computing new columns, analyze and report on data, export data and results to other formats, use SQL in SAS to query and join tables. SAS (Statistical Analysis System) is a software suite developed by SAS Institute for advanced analytics, multivariate analyses, business intelligence, data management, and predictive analytics and is one of the most popular tools in the BIG Data Space. United Kingdom Special Forces Selection is the selection and training process for members of the United Kingdom's three regular Special Forces formations: 22 Special Air Service, Special Air Service Reserve, Special Boat Service, and Special Reconnaissance Regiment and the SBS (Reserve).
